Happy Monday – 6/27

I’m just going to get straight to it this week:

  1. We just put our last month of rent in the mail! Woop woop! Now we just have to hope that we’ll have somewhere to go at the end of July. Come onnnn, appraiser dude.
  2. Only 39 days until our Disney trip! A weekend in the happiest place on earth (or at least one of them) will be a welcome reprieve to all of this house-related stress. Also I’m introducing Joe to the wonders of Boma. Salivating just thinking about it right now, mmmm.
  3. Saturday afternoon was spent at our friends’ pool floating on flamingos and ice cream cones. We popped in to Five Below (for the first time ever) before heading over to swim – definitely some of the best purchases we could have made…even if the ice cream cone wasn’t particularly float and relax-friendly. 😛
  4. I have officially started my Christmas shopping! Yay for sales and planning ahead! I highly recommend it. But along with early shopping comes writing a list of what I’ve purchased (and making sure I keep track of said list,) because let’s be real, I’d forget all about  my purchases 6 months from now otherwise.
  5. Sample Vökin bottles have been printed! Very exciting. The owner is coming out this week to do dinner and discuss some small changes and adjustments that need to be made, but hooray for progress! Here’s hoping product finds its way to shelves soon!!

Sheesh, I started this post over lunch, and now it’s time to get ready for bed. Life is just too busy right now. Happy Monday!

Wanderlust Wednesday – 6/22

Ah, yes. Putting my graphic design skills to good use.
Ah, yes. Putting my graphic design skills to good use.

It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition; and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone.

Or at least something very similar.

Scene: A dark and stormy night. Doors and windows open in a cute green rental home (which is surprisingly cluttered considering the house was just speed-cleaned in preparation for house showings.) Doors and windows open for air flow, because running the AC gets expensive.

Action: As the curtain rises, Chip and Joanna Gaines can be heard. Apparently it’s demo day. And yes, Chip, your hair looks great. Claire and Joe are sitting on the couch enjoying cocktails prepared for tomorrow’s Vökin Vodka post, and discussing what needs to be done to the Berkley house. Barb is hiding under the guest room bed, meowing at the thunder…and everything else.

a ding is heard coming from claire’s computer, but demo day is more important so it is ignored.

Joe: Uh. Check your email.

Claire: checks email, and is immediately sent into a state of (calm) panic after reading that the sellers gave an ultimatum. Response by tomorrow at 9am, or the house is going back on the market.

Joe: So, are we buying a house?

joe and claire converse back and forth, text claire’s family for input, and pour some very large glasses of wine.

Okay and to be quite honest I’m not quite sure how the rest of it all went, but the following was the resulting email back to our realtor, word for word. Still on an image from my travels though, because it is Wanderlust Wednesday after all 😉

So…yep! Cheers to that! (pending appraisal and mortgage things, but that’s kid’s stuff in comparison.)

5 House-Buying Thoughts…

Despite all of the stars aligning to get us this house, we’ve been hitting speed bump after speed bump…all of which has been more or less out of our control. And while I have a feeling some of what we’re experiencing is unique to our situation, holy moley Joe and I are both at the “literally can’t even” stage of all of this. I like to think that I (generally) have a positive outlook on life…heck – I joke that my mantra is Hakuna Matata – but lemme tell ya – there is nothing Hakuna Matata about buying a house.

Anyway. If you know me at all, you know I love my phone’s Disney GIF keyboard app. It just makes everything better, kind of like ice cream. Or wine. So of course as I was contemplating a house-related blog post (a grumpy one, at that) – I knew including Disney GIFs would keep me from getting too cynical about the whole ordeal. Here goes nothin!

1. Is it really that hard for our realtor to hit ‘reply all’ ?

IMG_9557
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind texting Joe (or vice versa) any time we hear back from the guy but come onnnn. We put each other in the CC box for a reason.

2. Well, I just got a nice new car. Maybe we can live in that for a while.

I guess maybe a cat, senile hedgehog and two humans might be a tight squeeze, but it is an option. (Kidding.) But really, there aren't even any other houses on the market right now that we like. We're absolutely between a rock and a hard place.

3. Trying to focus on work things when shit is hitting the fan is hard.

IMG_8978
Definitely doable. But hard. Gotta put my Anne Hathaway *focus face* on.

4. Can the owners of our current home just make a decision?

IMG_2764
They’ve gone back and forth a handful of times now and it is not helping stress levels. “Sign this lease increase and extension by June 1st or we will assume you are finding somewhere else to live” okay looks like we’re staying put for another year “loljk the owners are thinking of selling the house” well shoot. oh but the berkley house is available again? cool beans! “Oh btw, you need to have the house clean and ready for showings in 5 days” well, we’re gone for 2.5 of those days, time for some speed cleaning “loljk they’re not going to sell it” at least now we have a clean house…?

5. Do the sellers even care about our well-being?

You're probably thinking "duh, Claire" - but really. We already offered to pay for most of the wiring/electrical issues on our own (still knob and tube) - the LEAST y'all can do is save me from having to inhale mold spores while I sleep.
You’re probably thinking no, Claire they just want to make money, duh – but really. The kitchen needs a remodel and we already offered to pay for most of the wiring/electrical issues on our own (still knob and tube set up) – the LEAST y’all can do is save me from having to inhale mold spores while I sleep.

Buying the Berkley house isn’t completely off the table. We still have to be out as close to the end of July as we can, which makes things difficult, but unless the sellers do a complete 180, we’ll probably have to start all over. Sigh. (Heck, we would probably be okay with just meeting somewhere in the middle!) I think it’s safe to say that we will both be consuming nice, cold, tall glass of…something with alcohol during Finding Dory tonight. Sheesh. Have I mentioned how great the Alamo Drafthouse is before? That’s another story for another day.

Surprise! Cute Baby Dory 🙂 Gotta end my grumpy post with something adorable.

Happy Monday!

  1. Due to health issues in the family of our current house’s owners, the house we’re renting is no longer going up on the market for the foreseeable future! Despite sad circumstances, hooray for not having to make the bed every morning in preparation for showings!
  2. I got my new car on Friday! We ended up leasing instead of buying so our mortgage guy didn’t have a heart attack. I’m a teeny weeny bit sad that I’m no longer a special snowflake with a car that every other person on the road is driving, but I love it anyway 🙂 Of course, the first thing I did was set Sirius presets: Hits 1, Classic Vinyl, KISS-LA, Limited Edition (Road Trip Radio), Margaritaville, and Highway (country.)
  3. While the other side of the state is getting bombarded by possibly ‘the worst season of fishflies ever’ – I get to look outside and see bazillions of lightning bugs which makes me happy. Quite possibly the only bug I don’t mind picking up! Well, other than cute inchworms.
  4. We ordered a bunch of tile samples for a future kitchen remodel (yes, we are getting way ahead of ourselves, hush) and of course my favorites are the most expensive, handmade ones. I need to keep reminding myself that this house will not be our ‘forever house’ – so splurging on the $28/sq ft tile maybe isn’t necessary. (But it’s SO nice.)
  5. Every so often I’ll go through Kickstarter and back a few projects/products, and today one of the the products I backed arrived! I had been on the lookout for compact towels for our trip to Morocco (remembering back to my beach towel taking up 1/3 of the space in my honeymoon bag) so when I came across Acteon towels I was super excited! I think they’ll be perfect for our trip 🙂
  6. Woohoo, 6 things to be happy about today! This one is short and sweet, but we had a fab weekend back home for Father’s Day, and I feel super lucky to have the dad that I do!

Wanderlust…Thursday? 6/16

walt disney quote - begin doing

Oof. Day late – my bad. Life is crazy. Tuesday we learned that the owners of the house we’re renting officially will be selling the house we’re renting this summer. Cool, timing is working out so that’s good, right?

Not quite. Apparently we have to have the house ready to be listed by tomorrow, and ready for showings and an open house next week. While we are far from living in squalor/a dump, we certainly aren’t the most organized people in the world, so 2 days of notice is not enough time….except it has to be enough time. Merp. So needless to say, we’ve been de-cluttering, organizing, and cleaning until the wee hours of the morning, foregoing climbing, flex, and really any downtime this week just to appease our landlady.

Wouldn’t it have made more sense for them to wait a month for us to be out? The housing market is crazy right now – a month wouldn’t have changed a thing. Sigh. Pardon my rant.

Anyway, picture from Disney this week; thoughts and prayers are with the people of Orlando, and the family that lost their son in the lagoon outside of the Grand Floridian. Bad week for Florida. On an upside? Shanghai Disney is officially open!

Happy Monday!

  1. Joe went to our house’s inspection today, and other than a roof issue that is WAY bigger than the seller’s agent let on – it looks like the house is as good as we could have hoped for. Now we just have to cross our fingers that the owners are cool with dealing with the issues. Merp.
  2. Season 6 of Pretty Little Liars is on Netflix – woop woop! Definitely a welcome distraction to the craziness going on in our lives right now.
  3. If all goes according to plan (aka our mortgage guy doesn’t strangle us before then for trying to make two large purchases in less than a month) I’ll have a new car on Friday! Woohoo!
  4. We went to the zoo yesterday! It was fun.
  5. When we thought we were staying put in our current house for another year, I bought a hammock to enjoy the summer – and despite plans completely changing, the hammock was still definitely one of my best decisions ever.

Life is crazy right now, and while I’d like to say I wouldn’t have it any other way, I really can’t wait for things to calm down 🙂

Wanderlust Wednesday – 6/8

Wanderlust Wednesday - Marcel Proust
I don’t remember where I took this. Maybe outside of Washington DC?

Time is flying. I feel like I just posted last week’s Wanderlust Wednesday post, but here I am, at it again! There is too much going on in my brain right now between 1) house buying (inspection set up for Monday!) 2) making sure we can get a mortgage by our close date 3) buying a new car 4) learning that I can’t get added onto Joe’s insurance 5) hoping my contract gets extended 6) trying to get 2 fairly large work projects out on time….I can keep going if you’re not feeling a sense of overwhelmed-ness yet. Yay adulthood?

58 days til Disney, and 204 til Morocco!

Happy Monday!

Today started off as any Monday should – Joe sat up to turn off his alarm just as I was getting up to flip around and go back to sleep when my nose bonked into his face hard. Almost 5 hours later and it still hurts – so that’s fun. But that’s okay because other than that, life is pretty darn good!

  1. We had an amazing long weekend up north for a wedding – everything was perfect, and that’s really all there is to say about it!
  2. After learning Thursday afternoon that the owners of the house we’re renting might be putting it up on the market (causing a mini panic attack, forgetting to pack a lot of things as a result…) all of the stars aligned, and on Friday we were able to put another offer in on the house we fell in love with a month ago. Barring loan things and agreeing on a close date, things are looking good. Of course this all happened a week after we decided to put everything on hold. Life is never boring over here.
  3. We stopped for some plant life and a hanging basket on our way home yesterday – hopefully we can keep them alive long enough to (hopefully) plant them at our new house? I’m trying not to get ahead of myself, I really am.
  4. I love everything that came in my most recent Le Tote which just makes me happy. Hooray for an ever-changing wardrobe of cute clothes 🙂
  5. Barb survived 2 3 day weekends in a row all by her lonesome! She’s been a bit of a stinker since we got home yesterday, perhaps because I closed up (and hid) the jar of treats that the appraiser left open all weekend….Barb ate probably 150-300 treats while we were gone. I wish I was kidding. Note to self: put a sticky note on the jar saying “do not give to cat” if we have people walking through before we peace out. (The handyman for our property sprinkled a very large handful (or 12) when he was here “fixing” the door. Gosh, I can’t wait to have our own house.) (Hopefully.)
It's Happening GIF
maybe.

I need some (Vökin) help!

Alright y’all – as much as I appreciate my parents liking every picture I post on my freelance job’s social media accounts, I need your help getting the start-up distillery (Vökin Vodka) a bit more of a following on their Facebook and Instagram. (Just click those links and like or follow!) If you do you will get to see all sorts of fancy photos and drink recipes made by yours truly 😉

Vodka Superstition Cocktail

Green Flag Spritzer

Vodka Thyme Lemonade

Plus the FB page (or website!) will probably host a handful of giveaways in the near future – and you wouldn’t want to miss out on those, would ya?!

do ya?!

Anyway, let me know in the comments if you’ve followed, and I’ll love you forever…and maybe even more if you share the links with your friends 🙂

Wanderlust Wednesday – June 1

june1wanderlust-01
Cape Town, South Africa

In case you were wondering, there are 211 days left until we leave for Morocco, but only 65 until Disney World! Woop woop!

I came across a super interesting article on Outside’s website so I am sharing with all of you lovely people! 15 Words that Every Outdoor Lover Should Know — lots of the words are in different languages/don’t exist in English, which I think is what makes it super interesting! At least to me…a person that loves words 😉

Tomorrow is my Friday – hooray for a short week! (Even if that does mean a crazy compacted 3 days trying to squeeze everything in that needs to get done…)
