Happy Monday! 8/29

How is it already the end of August? I’ve been knee-deep in a re-branding project at work, so have had basically a negative amount of free time to do anything else. Like grout the tile on our porch. Or film a video review I was supposed to post last week. We’ll get there!

That said…there are some lovely things going on too! As there always are.

  1. We had family in from Nashville for the hydroplane races this past weekend, plus my sister in from Atlanta. A house full of people has always been one of my favorite things.
  2. I told myself my Lilly order had to be ‘covered’ by OT with this re-brand project, and I was successful! Gotta look on the bright side of a 55 hour workweek, right? ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. Barb was extra cuddly last night/this morning which doesn’t happen too often. Usually she sleeps at our feet, but she was all snuggled up against my back last night and it was adorable. My allergies aren’t too pleased about it this morning, but I’ll take what I can get!
  4. I managed to squeeze in 2 Pure Barre classes while I was home this weekend. My body kind of hates me today since I haven’t really done much physical activity since we started the moving process, but that’s okay. Hopefully this week I’ll be able to make time for flex and climbing again ๐Ÿ˜€
  5. One of our friends had her baby on Friday, which means my cute-baby quota will be filled for the foreseeable future – hooray! On a somewhat related note – we were asked about our baby timing more this weekend than (I think) since getting married. Amusing.

Happy Monday! 8/22

  1. Happily, even after the tragic Lilly After Party app failure, August Edition – I was able to order everything I wanted! Which really was just a popover. But I ordered more than that, and am contemplating one more skirt. We’ll see what happens over the next 24 hours. Lilly semi-annual sales are dangerous, yo.
  2. All of our tiling is done! Tonight (and maybe tomorrow night?) will consist of grouting, and then building our lovely Walmart porch furniture that was finally delivered!
  3. We have more visitors coming in early October – my parents and then Joe’s mom! Hopefully by then we should have the roof vented, and mold taken care of. Among other things. Yay home ownership! ๐Ÿ˜›
  4. The last few days of Olympics always make me happy. As ridiculous as Rhythmic Gymnastics and Synchronized Swimming are – I love watching them ๐Ÿ˜€ Even if that does mean there’s another 2 years before more Olympics. Womp.
  5. This weekend is Gold Cup race weekend in Detroit! Yay hydroplanes and yay for everyone being back home for the weekend ๐Ÿ˜€

Lilly After Party Sale – WHYYY.

So sad. I got through on my drive to work, added basically everything I wanted to my cart in the Lowe’s parking lot…and then this happened. Now I’m 55,121st in line. Grumble.

Review: EverPro Back2Blonde + Giveaway!

Disclaimer: Back2Blondeย sent me this product with no compensation other than the sprayย to test and review. This post consists of my honest thoughts & opinions about the product!

From lemon juice to Beach Blonde and Sun-In to getting my hair professionally highlighted, I’ve wanted to keep my hair a little blonder than its natural dirty blonde color for about as long as I can remember. (Except for that one year I decided to go with an auburn-y brown color. But that’s beside the point.) However…my hairstylist stopped working weekends shortly after I moved to the other side of the state, and the budget for highlights has been redistributed to health insurance, car payments, and little things like 200 pounds of mortar to tile a porch! Oh, adulthood.

Maybe someday I’ll find a salon here in Kalamazoo, but that day is not today! Or tomorrow, or probably the day after that. Plus I’m trying to grow my hair out again, so I don’t need to go in for a cut ๐Ÿ™‚ Thankfully my hair does get a bit blonder in the summer, but that doesn’t keep my roots from coming in sort of dark.ย  Enter: Back2Blonde by EverPro.

The spray comes in 3 shades; Dark Blonde, Medium Blonde and Light Blonde

Despite accidentally turning my scalp yellow the first time using it, the aerosol root-touch up was super easy to use…and I figured out how to avoid the yellow scalp issue after a couple of uses. I wouldn’t say that Back2Blonde is a miracle-worker, but there definitely was a noticeable difference after application.

See?! Roots are still there, but look so much better! Maybe not quite as perfect as the models in the Back2Blonde how-to video, but that’s okay. I was sent the Medium color to try out, and I’d say it did a pretty good job. I’ve seen so many horror stories of root touch up products, so I was happy to see that the spray looked natural – especially since I was heading to work! ๐Ÿ™‚

The only real downside to this product – other than a slight learning curve – is that it only lasts for one hair wash. Womp womp. It makes sense, since it isn’t a hair dye, but I’d appreciate a little more longevity! (And not have to worry about sweating it out/off during hot barre.)

The Verdict?

While I’m not one to worry about my roots showing, Back2Blonde does exactly what it should, and does it well! If you’re looking for a root concealer between hair appointments – I definitely think you’d be happy with this spray. Plus, $11 is much cheaper than an appointment at your salon ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back2Blonde is hosting a giveaway – 25 people will win a full-size sample of the spray! Good luck!!

Wanderlust Wednesday – 8/17

7 hours of tiling last night and 5 more tonight = too tired to say anything though-provoking. Everything on my body hurts and my wrist is screaming in pain. Thank you, tendinitis. Perfect timing for a huge project at work, eh? Oh well – I’ll survive ๐Ÿ™‚

Next week is the Hydroplane Races in Detroit – I’ve gone for about as long as I can remember and definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!

Now it’s time for me to hit the hay – goodnight!

Happy Monday! 8/15

Well shoot, it’s been a while since I posted something of substance, eh? Moving + Disney + unpacking + freelance + regular work takes a lot out of a person! No complaints though – I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t keep busy.

  1. Friday over lunch I decided we had to tear up the carpet on our stairs. I’m pretty sure the previous owners’ dog slept there every night, so the stairwell just reeked. The stairs will definitely need to be refinished at some point but I’m just happy to not have stinky stairs anymore ๐Ÿ˜€
  2. After buying all of the painting supplies to redo our porch floor, we…decided to tile it instead. So far we’ve cleaned the porch and put down a moisture barrier, and today after work we’ll be smoothing out the concrete with some mortar (it’s in really bad shape right now.) There’s a good chance we’re biting off a bit more than we can chew, but it’ll get done!
  3. I did a few blind taste tests with Vรถkin, Grey Goose, and Ketel One with friends and Joe over the weekend, and they all chose Vรถkin as the best one – so that’s promising! Hooray for *officially* having good product!
  4. One of my friends is visiting this weekend! We have grand plans of building porch furniture and sitting on the porch for hours upon hours, so hopefully Joe and I are able to get the floor finished before he leaves for a conference Wednesday night.
  5. Even though it was already a week ago, I’m putting our Disney trip into my happy things, because..duh. Disney. We took a whopping 274 Photopass pictures; when you’re paying a lot of money for Memory Maker (aka can download all of the photos) – you gotta take full advantage of every. single. photographer. on main street. Heh. Really though, we had such a great time, and are already looking forward to our next trip. Which will absolutely, certainly, without question be longer than 2.5 days:) (Well, 3, taking into account the Delta issues we ran into on Monday.) Look out for a full (mini) trip report in a week or so..once life settles down again!

Whew! Lots to catch up on. In addition to a Disney trip report, I’ll also be posting a couple of reviews sometime soon..yay for getting back into the swing of things!

I’ll catch up on regularly scheduled blogging soon, but in the meantime…did anyone else notice these guys watching the Men’s All-Around Gymnastics finals? Hah.

Review: BAMBOO Eau De Parfum

So this review/post was planned for last week, but as it turns out, trying to write a well-rounded review on perfume during a week of terribly bad allergies isn’t the easiest thing to do!

First, I just gotta say how awesome the unboxing experience was! I didn’t take any photos, but the perfume arrived from the Fragrance Outlet in a high quality box and nice ribbon. Perfect for gifting, if that’s your kind of thing! Sheesh – I wish I had taken pictures. It was seriously so pretty! I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it ๐Ÿ˜‰

As I was talking to my friend Kaitlyn about writing this review, she mentioned some of the things she looks for when picking out a new perfume, and I liked her set of requirements:

  • Does it smell like grandma perfume? No.
  • Is it too strong? Nope!
  • Does it make me feel pretty? Sure does!
  • Does the smell last longer than 10 seconds? Yup!

All good things!

What does it actually smell like, you ask? Well my rather uneducated nose would say “kind of fresh and floral but not too girly or overpowering.” Fragrance Outlet on the other hand has a much more accurate description:

  • Top notes: Blackcurrant, violet leaves, ivy
  • Middle notes: Lily, rose, ylang-ylang, freesia
  • Base notes: Musk, cedar and vetiver

See, exactly like I said – kind of floral, but not too girly! Wearable on a day to day basis, if you’re into that, but also perfectly good for special occasions! Two thumbs up, for sure ๐Ÿ™‚

Perfume makes me feel fancy!

Wanderlust Wednesday – 8/3

walt disney - curious quote

Good news! My head no longer hurts, which means I can go on Space Mountain on Saturday without fear of an aneurysm…or whatever the worst case scenario of a concussion would be. Hooray!

I’m actually not looking forward to seeing how busy the parks will be, but there’s rain in the forecast so maybe that will keep some of the crowds at bay. Maybe. (Who am I kidding, there’s always rain in the forecast in Florida.)

We should probably start packing. Putting things away can wait til next week, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Does anyone else find it ironic/somewhat comical that I possibly gave myself a concussion on the day I was switched from my mom’s good insurance to my own that only covers ‘catastrophic events?’ No? Just me?

(The door frame leading to our upstairs is much lower than we’re used to. Joe and I have both bonked our heads on it a handful of times, but I hit my head extra hard last night and have some symptoms of a concussion this morning. Fun!)

Now let’s just hope I feel better by Friday! I’m sure I will.

Also, can we talk for a second about Jojo’s poor decision last night on the Bachelorette finale? Whyyyy, Jojo, whyyy?!

Shout-out to the Disney GIF app for existing.

ps. Yes, friends and family – if my head still hurts when I wake up tomorrow, I’ll go get checked out.
