Where did November go?! Holy moley. I’m trying to get Joe to finish up his last 3 days of thankfulness, and will post an update on that in the near future. They’re both rather amusing. I still have so many reviews planned among other posts…so here’s hoping life calms down a bit soon and I can get back into the swing of this whole blogging thing! But in the meantime…it’s Monday, and we could all use a little happy 🙂
Ugly sweater parrty!
Christmas goodness, with bonus wedding pic!
Bathroom selfie from my company’s awards night.
Adorable bubble bar from Lush. Had to get it.
Got to go on a tour of Bell’s! Twas lovely. And delicious.
1-3 inches of snow, surprise! (Sorry this is sideways…)
It snowed yesterday! And while I guess that’s not really something to be happy about (at least for me) – it gave us a good kickstart for getting our house decorated for Christmas! Plus we’ve been pretty lucky weather-wise, so no snow til December is alright I guess. Joe and I both also had our holiday parties over the last week – Gatsby 20’s (ish) theme for mine, and ugly sweater theme for his. All good things.
I got a massage on Friday after work (quite possibly the quickest 30 minutes of my life.) The fact that November went by in such a blur should speak to why that was needed. Sometimes ya just gotta treat yourself! Anyway, my upper back is knottier than..gosh I don’t know. Something really knotty. Has more knots than a sailboat? Who knows. You get the idea. When my masseuse had all but given up on one knot in particular, she brought out a silicone cup (similar to the cupping mechanism people like Michael Phelps use) and began suction cupping my neck/shoulder area! Good news: I definitely feel like the big knots have been broken up a bit. Bad news: I not have a fairly large, circular bruise, requiring scarves for the next few days. Here’s hoping it’s gone before….
…the Detroit Historical Society Ball! I’m using Rent the Runway for the first time ever, and getting my hair done. I love having a reason to dress up – especially when the dress code is black tie!
Apparently more people in the 16-34 age demographic are watching Planet Earth II than the X Factor (in England.) I used to watch Planet Earth (and similar shows) while pulling all-nighters for school, so I’m especially excited to learn that there’s a second ‘season’ of Planet Earth. With music by Hans Zimmer! It doesn’t get better than that.
Just LOOK at this cat shelter outside of Atlanta. I had a hard time sewing my ugly sweater with Barb around, much less doing a whole yoga class with her around, but I looove this idea. Especially since the $20 class fee goes straight back to the shelter. So good.
So there’s your warm fuzzies for today! I’m thinking after the new year (after we return from Morocco) this will turn in to all good news stories instead of tidbits about my life, though I’m sure friends and family reading appreciate those tidbits as well. Maybe I’ll wiggle those into another post!
ps. Has anyone seen Moana yet? I’ve been listening to the soundtrack all day and am quite fond of it!
pps. I’m working on (somewhat) last minute gift guides – keep a eye out if you’re struggling to find something for those important people in your life!
Oh hi, hello there! It’s been a while. Long time no…type?
I don’t know how mom bloggers do it. We had a kitten for 2 weeks (more on that in a sec) and I (almost) didn’t blog at all. Sheesh.
So – despite the title of this post, it’s really not a happy Monday. I’ve been crying on and off since about 5pm, and we are officially back to a 1 cat household. It’s kind of crazy how quickly a person can get attached to a pet. I just have to keep reminding myself that our kitten (Abby) will be happier in a home without a cat that is hissing and swiping at her at every opportunity. But still; heartbroken.
On to happier things!
We had a visitor (one of my bridesmaids) for part of the weekend, and we had a lovely time. Sometimes you just need a night of puzzles, movies, and catching up on life!
It’s Thanksgiving week! I have jury duty on Wednesday (boooo…) but Joe and I are both looking forward to some much needed time back home. It’s been quite a while since we’ve been back! (Well, ‘quite a while’ compared to the every other weekend thing we had been doing.)
Since it’s Thanksgiving week, there are about 3,048 sales…and I am a sucker for sales. Some of my favorites thusfar: the stationery bundle from Oh Hello Friend, 75% off sale items for Fabletics VIP customers, and 15-75% off everything at MochiThings. All good things. Now I just need to watch Anthro to see if the perfect jumpsuit for riding camels and traipsing around Morocco goes on sale further than it already is.
So many good movies are coming out! We saw Arrival this weekend – still working on wrapping my head around that – plus Fantastic Beasts, Moana, and a few others I’m looking forward to. I need to find more time in my life to see everything!
And now for your happy news of the day (because goodness – we could all use some of that) this Grandma that has an additional guest coming to Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, technology.
I forgot yet again to create a Wanderlust Wednesday post last week, and missed Monday as well…but here we are on November 1st, so that’s as good a time as any to catch y’all back up on life, right?
Hopefully everyone had a spectacular Halloween…we spent it binge watching Lie to Me and handing out laaaarge handfuls of candy to the 20 or so kids that stopped by. Woo! Anyway, on with my 5 happy things.
It’s November, which means Thanksgiving! This year I’ve decided to spend the entire month writing down things I’m thankful for; and blogger Emily Ley made it super easy with this cute printable! I can’t imagine it’ll be too difficult, though I might be thinking differently by the end of the month. I’ll post updates occasionally 🙂 You should try it too!
Despite the majority of people not knowing who we were dressed up as, I think that Joe and I kicked some major costume butt this year. If you haven’t seen The Royal Tenenbaums, I highly recommend it! It’s been one of my favorites since I watched it in film class my Senior year of high school. Barb also dressed up multiple times over the weekend, both as a taco and a peacock.
It is 77 degrees right now, and while I feel sad for the polar bears and other animals who have melting homes, I’m going to embrace the warm weather as long as possible! (Especially since everything I’ve read says we’re in for a nasty winter. I really dislike being cold.)
The vodka company I freelance for officially is in stores (in Michigan) as of Oct 31! It’s been a long time coming, and I have no idea which stores it can actually be found in, but I’m excited nonetheless. I had fun with Boomerang for the two Halloween social media posts, heh.
Since I started with a link…kind of, I’m going to finish with one more tidbit of Claire-goodness. We finally booked somewhere to stay during our 14 hour layover in Frankfurt! We found an Airbnb 1 train stop away from the airport. An apartment in a neighborhood is much more exciting (and cheaper!) than the airport hotel. The owners also speak like 8 languages, which is crazy impressive.
Happy Hallo-week! I just realized I haven’t posted a Wanderlust Wednesday post for 2 weeks now…so just in case you’re keeping track, there are only 66 days until our Morocco trip! American Horror Story has been distracting me, I guess. (This season is SO GOOD, speaking of.)
I just need to go to Payless for some penny loafers (lol.) and my costume will be complete! Oh, and making a faux-wooden finger out of sculpey. So close! This costume is fun, though I’m wondering how many people will actually know who I am. I emailed Davecat over the weekend about my costume – I’m sure he’ll be just as excited as I am! 😉
Joe and I went to our first tailgate ever over the weekend. Ah, the life of an art school student. Western won, and we had lots of fun…even with me asking Joe what was happening every 15 seconds. I just donnnn’t get it.
It’s finally actually Fall! Bright blue, cloudless skies and orange/red/yellow leaves…it isn’t Summer, but I guess I’ll take it 🙂 Apparently people are already skiing in Vermont. Nope nope nope nope.
I had my free training session included in our new gym membership on Saturday morning, and I’m still sore. Which I suppose is a good thing, right?! Now I just need to get in the habit of actually GOING after work. Here’s hopin’! The trainer also gave me some stretches to try and loosen up my hamstrings (I’ve only successfully touched my toes ONCE in my life.) Remember that flexibility challenge I started at the end of last year? I’m actually going to try and follow through with that now – wish me luck!!
And now for your happy news, or whatever you want to call it. LOOK HOW CUTE THIS IS. Puppies and cheetah cubs. The best.
I’m beginning to think that everything Joe and I do can easily fall under the ‘whirlwind’ category. We got back from Nebraska (and Iowa!) late last night, and now all I want to do is sleep! Between Friday and Sunday we walked almost 15 miles through airports, a zoo, and across state lines – AND we attended a wedding somewhere in there too! Whirlwind.
Now onto the good stuff.
The guy sitting in the window seat on our flight from Omaha to Minneapolis showed us a picture on his phone as we were taxiing to our gate. What was in the picture? Our plane’s engine on fire while we were in the air. A little disconcerting, eh? So happy thought #1 is just that we made it home safe and sound – whew!
We’re in the middle of our second week of Blue Apron! We’ve both decided that while it’s a bit pricey, it’s cheaper than going out to dinner AND we get to spend time cooking together – so for now it’s worth the little splurge. (Which, realistically we’re probably saving money by not going out as much. Win win.) Some sort of review will probably be coming in the near future.
I’ve somehow managed to send way too many things to our old address, including a bunch of pictures from our trip to Disney in August. Apparently the owners returned the package to Shutterfly, and they’ve finally been re-directed to our new house! The shoes that I bought to go with my Halloween costume though? I might not be seeing those for a while. To the thrift store we go!
We just got tickets for Kalamazoo’s Craft Beer festival! Woohoo! Now it’s time to get that gym membership. So much beer!
Dwell and Target are collaborating! Maybe not quite as exciting as the Lilly collaboration, and we aren’t really in the market for new furniture, but it’s all so cool looking! Love love love.
Joe and I have 90% of the parts for our costumes ordered/on their way! Minus a bag for me, and a blazer for him. Hmm, what are we going to be!? Any guesses? (No guessing if you already know.)
I have most of my Christmas shopping done. #HumbleBrag. Here’s hoping I am able to keep track of it between now and Christmas – only 11 weeks to go!
A soon-to-be-blogged-about subscription box offered me a pretty awesome discount to try out their subscription box and write up a review…and I’m super excited about it. You should be too! 🙂
The majority of Disney’s Halloween DCOMs are on the Disney Channel Apple TV app! We’ve already started working our way through them, but are keeping the Halloweentown trilogy for closer to the end of the month. (Yes, trilogy. Only the original Marnie counts.)
And lastly, because I feel like we all need something totally unrelated to all of the election shenanigans: Pete Campbell from Mad Men is the new Colonel Sanders. I know. I’m just as confused as you.
Sorry this is a somewhat disjointed post – I think the lack of free time is starting to get to me!
Perhaps happiest of all this week: I noticed our electricity/gas auto-pay wasn’t set up before anything tragic happened…like everything getting shut off. My bad. But super glad it’s all taken care of now. o_O Merp.
NBC’s fall line-up is on point this year. I’m not usually a ‘laugh-out-loud at the TV’ kind of person, but The Good Place has had me chuckling through 4 episodes so far. A part of that might just be because I love Kristen Bell, but hey. I’ll take what I can get. Thennnn I started This Is Us on a whim after catching up on The Good Place. I had zero expectations, but after 2 episodes I’m hooked for the rest of the season. Bonus? Joe seems to be enjoying it too!
My parents visit was lovely! We fit in just the right amount of stuff without wearing ourselves out too much. Now to reset for our Vermont guests 😀 wheeee!
I’m only allowing myself to buy 2 things for the Fall season – a herringbone vest, and a new pair of black flats. That’s it! Usually I go overboard – some sales are just too good to pass up – but I’m doing my best to have a lot of self control this year (roofs are expensive, y’all.)
99% sure I’ve figured out my Halloween costume for this year. I’ll be wearing a fancy coat, lots of eyeliner, and a red barrette. Any guesses? Here’s hoping I can find all the parts and pieces over the next few weeks! 😀
Apparently my brain was otherwise-occupado last week – I completely forgot to post both my Monday and Wednesday posts.
Last weekend – Balloon Festival
House is coming together slowly but surely.
New phone and awesome new case!
My parents are visiting this weekend, we’re going to see Andy Grammar in concert, Joe’s mom is visiting next weekend, and then we’re going to Nebraska for a wedding! I really don’t think it’s possible for us to have an empty calendar for more than 7 consecutive days. But hooray for lots of things to look forward to!
I’m loving the camera on the iPhone 7 – higher quality nighttime photos for the win. My aunt also gave both me and my sister Series 1 Apple Watches, and I’m finally wrapping my brain around all of the knobs and whistles. Favorite feature so far? The Find My iPhone button.
Did you take the Patronus quiz on Pottermore? Joe and I both got Dolphin. Considering there are almost 140 different results – I’m pretty impressed that we got the same animal 🙂
Today is my first day as a full-time employee at work (instead of contract) – benefits! PTO! Life is good.
When I decided to do a “Happy Monday” post, I had initially intended for it to be like…happy things in the news. Clearly it’s more of a “here are personal things for me to be happy about” – but hey, whatever gets me through the week, right? Maybe I’ll slowly try to start a more generic look at these happy things out in the world angle. Thoughts? Comment and let me know! In the meantime, on with regularly scheduled programming.
Friday = new phone day! Here’s hoping it survives a weekend without a case. Unless Casetify ships my new one reeeeal soon.
Friends are visiting this weekend! To be quite honest I had completely forgotten about that discussion we had, but I’m looking forward to an opportunity to show off our new house! Even if we don’t quiiiite have all of the furniture yet. That’s okay 🙂
Old houses come with problems – that’s a given. Luckily we’re going to start the process of getting all that taken care of tomorrow morning! Helloooo 6:30am wake-up call.
Our Morocco trip is officially paid off! (We had previously only paid the deposit.) 108 days to go! (15 and a half ish weeks, in case you were wondering.)
Only a few hours (?) until the rest of the iPhone-owning world has iOS 10! I’ve had the beta version for maybe..2 months now? But there’s only so much fun I can have with it on my own. Here’s to fun iMessages with my friends 😉
Oy. Time to finish some logo-work and hit the hay. Happy Monday, y’all!
Work weeks that start on Tuesday are so much easier to get through. Even when you have 2 bug bites that are insatiably itchy and shins that are sunburned as all get-out. Is that still a phrase people use? I’m bringin’ it back! Now on to today’s scheduled goodness.
Oh also we finished the porch!!
The hand-burning culprit. But it made good food, so I guess it’s alright.
Car packed full of IKEA goodies.
To dinner we go!
I grabbed the handle of our cast iron pan that had been pre-heating in a 475 degree oven on Friday night. I cried. Luckily after a constantly rotating supply of ice packs and the magical healing powers of a good night of sleep, my hand felt mostly better by Saturday, and feels completely better today! See?I knew there was a good reason to buy ice packs from the dollar section at Target every single time I notice them!
We decided last minute to head out to Detroit for Labor Day (after successfully knocking a handful of things off of our to-do list on Saturday and Sunday.) Yay for one last boat ride before summer officially ends!
Part of our bucket list included buying the last few pieces of furniture before we’re officially done buying things we “need” for the house. A TV stand, side table, and 2 wing back chairs later…we’re just about done! One more side table for the living room and our house will have everything it needs!
Joe and I introduced my parents to Stranger Things at 11pm Sunday night. They stayed up for 3 episodes, and continued to watch last night! I’m tellin’ ya, if you haven’t jumped on the Stranger Things bandwagon, there’s no time like the present! 😉
I know I’ve been saying I have some cool reviews coming up for a while now, but at least two of them should be posted sometime this week! Finally. Life has been so busy. o_O Solooking forward to being able to settle in for a while and get back into the swing of things! Well, at least until October, when things get hectic again.
In other news, American Horror Story starts next week! And I finished 2 books; The Girls and Dark Matter. As much as I am intrigued by cults and all of that, I think I liked Dark Matter better. Though perhaps a part of that is just because I was able to read it all in one ‘sitting.’ Next on my reading list? Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – gotta read it before the movie comes out! 🙂
