Hey look, I remembered that I started this last week! Here we go.
Obviously #1 has to be the fact that Joe and I are going to Disney World in December! I know I said this yesterday, but I’m seriously so excited to share a place that is so special to me with my hubby – and it helps that he’s excited too:)
I only have 15 more thank you notes to write! There’s a slight issue though – we’re out of envelopes and neither Target nor Meijer have any. Looks like I’ll be taking a trip down to French Paper (an hour and a half drive) sometime this week, because I really don’t want to pay the $15 for shipping.
A new book to read! I’m currently finishing up Catch Me if You Can, the 5th (I think?) book I started reading during our honeymoon, but haven’t had time to finish it…getting there slowly but surely though! Next up: Geek Love! And I was able to convince Joe to start reading The Martianbefore the movie comes out. I read that on our honeymoon as well, and loved everything about it.
Furniture! We went to Art Van this weekend to order a full bedroom set – what we currently have will move to the guest bedroom. We also got a corner TV stand/fireplace which is already fantastic, but will be even more fantastic once it gets a little chillier out.
A lovely hubby 🙂 I woke up feeling incredibly sick on Saturday morning (before your mind jumps to any conclusions, no it was not morning sickness, y’all) and was puking from 8am-4pm. It was horrid. Lucky for me, Joe ran to Target to get Pepto Bismol (and popsicles), then back out to get blue Gatorade, then once I was pretty sure I could keep things down, he made soup, all while trying to make me feel better be reminding me we’re going to Disney! 🙂 I definitely won the hubby lotto.
Nobody likes Mondays, though I suppose today could be an exception for those of us who get to celebrate Labor Day with sleeping in and barbecues. Anyway, I’ve decided that every Monday I’m going to try to make a list of things that make me happy, or have made me happy over the past week! Here goes nothin’:
50% off at the Kate Spade outlet, which meant a new wallet for me!
My mom’s co-worker traded cars with her for the weekend, allowing us to get our new couch to Kalamazoo in the bus. I mean Expedition.
Living vicariously through my sister who got to go to Disney World this weekend. The jealousy is high.
I got to go to Pure Barre on Saturday! Totally, without question, my happy place. And I’m still sore. But I got a cute PB branded Pura Vida bracelet so I can take my love for the barre back to Kzoo with me!
The broken parts of our credenza were delivered! I’m beyond excited to finish building it and start filling it with everything that didn’t fit in our kitchen. Is this what married life is like!? 😛 I’m also looking forward to putting the wire triceratops on it that I got from the Fab warehouse sale this weekend (along with a lot of other things, including an 8×10 rug for our bedroom, all for under $300 shipped. Hooray Labor Day sales!)
Our first major piece of furniture was delivered today, a credenza ordered from Zulily. As quite possibly the most impatient person in the world, I wanted the 150 pounds of credenza inside and built as soon as possible, so I opened the box on our side porch and started carrying it in, piece by piece. In 90 degree weather. Oof. Once it was all inside (and the AC was turned back on) I started working my way through the directions, only to realize that two of the major pieces had huge smushed parts that would be visible. So…building the credenza has been put on hold. Luckily the company is sending new parts that should arrive within 3-5 days…our house is still such a disaster though, the parts can’t come soon enough!
On another note, we’ve come to realize that our house has a mild ant problem, but we decided to become exterminators for the day, setting out little ant traps and spraying the baseboards, spraying the foundation outside, and sticking some weird ant bait things in the grass. Maybe we went a little overboard, but almost all of it was on clearance at Target – go big or go home, right? I’d really rather not re-live my bug instigated anxiety attack from our honeymoon at Morgan’s Rock (which, Morgan’s Rock was seriously amazing, especially once I got over the bug thing. Again, a blog post for another time.)
Speaking of Target – we used the last of our wedding gift cards tonight! Partially on food, partially, and more excitingly, on summer clearance items. We were super excited to find a cute little outdoor table/chair set for under $35…we may not have been able to build our credenza today, but gosh darn it we were determined to add some type of furniture to the house! Plus having a glass of wine on our deck before bed…it doesn’t get much better than that 🙂
I’ve lived in the same house my entire life. Well, at least until last week.
My home is no longer 10 minutes outside of Detroit, with the pink striped bedroom that I helped ‘design’ when I was 7, and the garden Joe and I started at the beginning of summer that is producing more cucumbers than we know what to do with.
Home now means our cute little house in Kalamazoo, still in dire need of a lot of furniture (we’re working on it!) – not the place I grew up in, with my parents that welcomed Joe in to our family with open arms, treating him as a son-in-law long before it was official. We both are constantly catching ourselves talking about home when referring to Grosse Pointe, subsequently wondering if and when Kalamazoo will actually feel like our home…like we’re not just visiting for a few years before making our way back to the ‘bubble’ that so many of my high school classmates are doing their best to escape.
We hung our first thing on one of our walls last night, a framed photo from one of Joe’s groomsmen, and amusingly, despite still lacking almost all of our real furniture, hanging that picture felt like the first step in making our new house feel like home. Hopefully as we replace the piece of glass on top of a plastic tote with a real coffee table, and put the pile of stuff currently in the corner into the credenza that is on its way from Zulily (oh, Zulily. Thats another blog post for another time), and have a couch to cuddle up on while we binge watch American Horror Story, we’ll feel like this is a home we belong in, sooner rather than later.
