Oh hi, hello there! It’s been a while. Long time no…type?
I don’t know how mom bloggers do it. We had a kitten for 2 weeks (more on that in a sec) and I (almost) didn’t blog at all. Sheesh.
So – despite the title of this post, it’s really not a happy Monday. I’ve been crying on and off since about 5pm, and we are officially back to a 1 cat household. It’s kind of crazy how quickly a person can get attached to a pet. I just have to keep reminding myself that our kitten (Abby) will be happier in a home without a cat that is hissing and swiping at her at every opportunity. But still; heartbroken.
On to happier things!
We had a visitor (one of my bridesmaids) for part of the weekend, and we had a lovely time. Sometimes you just need a night of puzzles, movies, and catching up on life!
It’s Thanksgiving week! I have jury duty on Wednesday (boooo…) but Joe and I are both looking forward to some much needed time back home. It’s been quite a while since we’ve been back! (Well, ‘quite a while’ compared to the every other weekend thing we had been doing.)
Since it’s Thanksgiving week, there are about 3,048 sales…and I am a sucker for sales. Some of my favorites thusfar: the stationery bundle from Oh Hello Friend, 75% off sale items for Fabletics VIP customers, and 15-75% off everything at MochiThings. All good things. Now I just need to watch Anthro to see if the perfect jumpsuit for riding camels and traipsing around Morocco goes on sale further than it already is.
So many good movies are coming out! We saw Arrival this weekend – still working on wrapping my head around that – plus Fantastic Beasts, Moana, and a few others I’m looking forward to. I need to find more time in my life to see everything!
And now for your happy news of the day (because goodness – we could all use some of that) this Grandma that has an additional guest coming to Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, technology.
Happy Hallo-week! I just realized I haven’t posted a Wanderlust Wednesday post for 2 weeks now…so just in case you’re keeping track, there are only 66 days until our Morocco trip! American Horror Story has been distracting me, I guess. (This season is SO GOOD, speaking of.)
I just need to go to Payless for some penny loafers (lol.) and my costume will be complete! Oh, and making a faux-wooden finger out of sculpey. So close! This costume is fun, though I’m wondering how many people will actually know who I am. I emailed Davecat over the weekend about my costume – I’m sure he’ll be just as excited as I am! 😉
Joe and I went to our first tailgate ever over the weekend. Ah, the life of an art school student. Western won, and we had lots of fun…even with me asking Joe what was happening every 15 seconds. I just donnnn’t get it.
It’s finally actually Fall! Bright blue, cloudless skies and orange/red/yellow leaves…it isn’t Summer, but I guess I’ll take it 🙂 Apparently people are already skiing in Vermont. Nope nope nope nope.
I had my free training session included in our new gym membership on Saturday morning, and I’m still sore. Which I suppose is a good thing, right?! Now I just need to get in the habit of actually GOING after work. Here’s hopin’! The trainer also gave me some stretches to try and loosen up my hamstrings (I’ve only successfully touched my toes ONCE in my life.) Remember that flexibility challenge I started at the end of last year? I’m actually going to try and follow through with that now – wish me luck!!
And now for your happy news, or whatever you want to call it. LOOK HOW CUTE THIS IS. Puppies and cheetah cubs. The best.
I’m beginning to think that everything Joe and I do can easily fall under the ‘whirlwind’ category. We got back from Nebraska (and Iowa!) late last night, and now all I want to do is sleep! Between Friday and Sunday we walked almost 15 miles through airports, a zoo, and across state lines – AND we attended a wedding somewhere in there too! Whirlwind.
Now onto the good stuff.
The guy sitting in the window seat on our flight from Omaha to Minneapolis showed us a picture on his phone as we were taxiing to our gate. What was in the picture? Our plane’s engine on fire while we were in the air. A little disconcerting, eh? So happy thought #1 is just that we made it home safe and sound – whew!
We’re in the middle of our second week of Blue Apron! We’ve both decided that while it’s a bit pricey, it’s cheaper than going out to dinner AND we get to spend time cooking together – so for now it’s worth the little splurge. (Which, realistically we’re probably saving money by not going out as much. Win win.) Some sort of review will probably be coming in the near future.
I’ve somehow managed to send way too many things to our old address, including a bunch of pictures from our trip to Disney in August. Apparently the owners returned the package to Shutterfly, and they’ve finally been re-directed to our new house! The shoes that I bought to go with my Halloween costume though? I might not be seeing those for a while. To the thrift store we go!
We just got tickets for Kalamazoo’s Craft Beer festival! Woohoo! Now it’s time to get that gym membership. So much beer!
Dwell and Target are collaborating! Maybe not quite as exciting as the Lilly collaboration, and we aren’t really in the market for new furniture, but it’s all so cool looking! Love love love.
Joe and I have 90% of the parts for our costumes ordered/on their way! Minus a bag for me, and a blazer for him. Hmm, what are we going to be!? Any guesses? (No guessing if you already know.)
I have most of my Christmas shopping done. #HumbleBrag. Here’s hoping I am able to keep track of it between now and Christmas – only 11 weeks to go!
A soon-to-be-blogged-about subscription box offered me a pretty awesome discount to try out their subscription box and write up a review…and I’m super excited about it. You should be too! 🙂
The majority of Disney’s Halloween DCOMs are on the Disney Channel Apple TV app! We’ve already started working our way through them, but are keeping the Halloweentown trilogy for closer to the end of the month. (Yes, trilogy. Only the original Marnie counts.)
And lastly, because I feel like we all need something totally unrelated to all of the election shenanigans: Pete Campbell from Mad Men is the new Colonel Sanders. I know. I’m just as confused as you.
Sorry this is a somewhat disjointed post – I think the lack of free time is starting to get to me!
Apparently my brain was otherwise-occupado last week – I completely forgot to post both my Monday and Wednesday posts.
Last weekend – Balloon Festival
House is coming together slowly but surely.
New phone and awesome new case!
My parents are visiting this weekend, we’re going to see Andy Grammar in concert, Joe’s mom is visiting next weekend, and then we’re going to Nebraska for a wedding! I really don’t think it’s possible for us to have an empty calendar for more than 7 consecutive days. But hooray for lots of things to look forward to!
I’m loving the camera on the iPhone 7 – higher quality nighttime photos for the win. My aunt also gave both me and my sister Series 1 Apple Watches, and I’m finally wrapping my brain around all of the knobs and whistles. Favorite feature so far? The Find My iPhone button.
Did you take the Patronus quiz on Pottermore? Joe and I both got Dolphin. Considering there are almost 140 different results – I’m pretty impressed that we got the same animal 🙂
Today is my first day as a full-time employee at work (instead of contract) – benefits! PTO! Life is good.
When I decided to do a “Happy Monday” post, I had initially intended for it to be like…happy things in the news. Clearly it’s more of a “here are personal things for me to be happy about” – but hey, whatever gets me through the week, right? Maybe I’ll slowly try to start a more generic look at these happy things out in the world angle. Thoughts? Comment and let me know! In the meantime, on with regularly scheduled programming.
Friday = new phone day! Here’s hoping it survives a weekend without a case. Unless Casetify ships my new one reeeeal soon.
Friends are visiting this weekend! To be quite honest I had completely forgotten about that discussion we had, but I’m looking forward to an opportunity to show off our new house! Even if we don’t quiiiite have all of the furniture yet. That’s okay 🙂
Old houses come with problems – that’s a given. Luckily we’re going to start the process of getting all that taken care of tomorrow morning! Helloooo 6:30am wake-up call.
Our Morocco trip is officially paid off! (We had previously only paid the deposit.) 108 days to go! (15 and a half ish weeks, in case you were wondering.)
Only a few hours (?) until the rest of the iPhone-owning world has iOS 10! I’ve had the beta version for maybe..2 months now? But there’s only so much fun I can have with it on my own. Here’s to fun iMessages with my friends 😉
Oy. Time to finish some logo-work and hit the hay. Happy Monday, y’all!
Holy cannoli my allergies have been bad lately. I have an inconsolably itchy nose from the second I step out of the shower in the morning until about 10am when my Zyrtec kicks in. Anywho, it’s Monday, which means it’s time for happy things!
We saw Secret Life of Pets and Addams Family: The Musical over the weekend – and while I’d like to say we did a lot of cleaning and packing up the rest of the time…that wasn’t the case. One chill weekend before we’re going crazy with moving and such was needed.
I ordered a pair of Madewell jeans that I’ve had my eyes on for a while now — high-rise and super flared — for $31 shipped down from $140. They’ll go perfectly with my Birkenstock sandals and a book about a ‘Manson-esque’ cult/the end of the 60’s (The Girls). Fully embracing my inner hippie over here.
My wrist and hand are healing nicely after Friday’s frightening debacle, and Barb seems to be happy as a clam. Probably taking a day or two more off of climbing and Bent9 to let my cuts close up a bit more, but yay for no trips to the ER/vet.
Only 18 days til Disney! We’re both so excited to spend a weekend at the Happiest Place on Earth, especially after the craziness that has been our house-buying adventure. Not to mention that it means we’re coming up on our 1 year anniversary. What the what?!
It’s kind of close to August, which means I get to start using my new planner soon! Exciting stuff.
Arg, WordPress’ “readability analysis” drives me bonkers. Just because 31.6% of my sentences are more than 20 words and I’m not using any subheadings, it gives me a red dot needs improvement rating. Despite the fact that I’m at 80.8/100 in the Flesch Reading Ease test, and “47.6% of the sentences contain a transition or phrase, which is great.” It drives my inner word-nerd crazy that I don’t have a green dot. Oh well, what can ya do?
I was the first person over the first obstacle! And then we fell back a bit, BUT STILL!
Sunday brunch, complete with bottomless mimosas – of course.
Sheesh, a year ago today I was out with friends for some pre-bachelorette spa day drinks, and two years ago I was leaving the Netherlands after 3 weeks in Den Haag. Nothing nearly as exciting is going on this year, but I guess that’s alright; life has been rather eventful lately as a whole.
We officially have a close date for our new house! What the what!? So exciting; but all I can think about is how we’re going to move the glass part of our dining room table.
Joe and I successfully completed Saturday’s inflatable 5k, and we’ve got the medals to prove it! 😛 The obstacles made everything a bit more challenging, but it was super fun over all, even if it did mean waking up at 6:30am on my birthday 🙂
Speaking of my birthday; it was a great one! A few things I received: new Lilly shorts, 2 Anthro tops, a cool speaker, corn hole, and a baby quilt and crib sheet! (For a future child, don’t worry. Joe, me, and my mom decided we would all be sad if the quilt disappeared before it was baby time, so now it is in my possession!) …among other lovely things like a decorated desk at work, lots of cards, and lots of love! It doesn’t get better than that, and I’m super grateful to have so many people in my life that care about me 🙂
Catching Pokemon is actually pretty fun. I have yet to fully figure out everything that goes along with the new fad that is Pokemon Go, but it’s been intriguing enough to hold my interest for 4 whole days now, so that’s saying something!
Olympic trials have been on over the past few days, which makes me happy! I love pretty much everything related to the Olympics, so here’s hoping the antenna for our TV gets NBC at our new house – otherwise you bet there will be lots of live-streaming going on. (Well, let’s be real; that will probably be happening regardless.)
That is all! Short and sweet this week; nothing wrong with that.
Due to health issues in the family of our current house’s owners, the house we’re renting is no longer going up on the market for the foreseeable future! Despite sad circumstances, hooray for not having to make the bed every morning in preparation for showings!
I got my new car on Friday! We ended up leasing instead of buying so our mortgage guy didn’t have a heart attack. I’m a teeny weeny bit sad that I’m no longer a special snowflake with a car that every other person on the road is driving, but I love it anyway 🙂 Of course, the first thing I did was set Sirius presets: Hits 1, Classic Vinyl, KISS-LA, Limited Edition (Road Trip Radio), Margaritaville, and Highway (country.)
While the other side of the state is getting bombarded by possibly ‘the worst season of fishflies ever’ – I get to look outside and see bazillions of lightning bugs which makes me happy. Quite possibly the only bug I don’t mind picking up! Well, other than cute inchworms.
We ordered a bunch of tile samples for a future kitchen remodel (yes, we are getting way ahead of ourselves, hush) and of course my favorites are the most expensive, handmade ones. I need to keep reminding myself that this house will not be our ‘forever house’ – so splurging on the $28/sq ft tile maybe isn’t necessary. (But it’s SO nice.)
Every so often I’ll go through Kickstarter and back a few projects/products, and today one of the the products I backed arrived! I had been on the lookout for compact towels for our trip to Morocco (remembering back to my beach towel taking up 1/3 of the space in my honeymoon bag) so when I came across Acteon towels I was super excited! I think they’ll be perfect for our trip 🙂
Woohoo, 6 things to be happy about today! This one is short and sweet, but we had a fab weekend back home for Father’s Day, and I feel super lucky to have the dad that I do!
Sheesh, I’ve hardly had time to blink today, much less write up a blog post, but now it’s Dancing With the Stars time, aka popsicle, wine, and writing time.
2 lads – coolest looking winery ever!
Today was a gross Monday, save a couple of things:
It was actually sunny today! And I didn’t feel like I needed to have a coat on! Huzzah. I don’t wana jinx it, but maybe spring has finally sprung? Much better than the SNOW we had over the weekend…sigh.
Speaking of the weekend – I spent it up north celebrating a college friend’s bachelorette party! We went wine tasting for almost 7 hours all around Old Mission Peninsula on Saturday and it was lots and lots of fun! (Obviously.) I also learned that 2 lads Cabernet Franc is my favorite…and I regret not buying a bottle! I did buy a comfy hoodie instead though – no regrets there.
My next le tote arrived today! Hooray for tomorrow’s outfit being easy to put together 🙂 Thursday I started taking pictures of my outfits, I’ll probably post something about it eventually.
We got 24 popsicles for $6.99 at Costco today. This one speaks for itself.
I’ve discovered not one, but two awesome series on Hulu over the past week. First, 11.22.63, a mini-series based on a Stephen King novel. Watch it, now. Also The Path – I’m on ep 6 of 8 right now and enjoying it quite a lot! It’s been renewed for a second season, so there’s also that 😀
