Review: Valentia Night Revive Retinol Serum

Last week we had a few activities around the office; some allowing us to ‘be the consumer’ and others more focused on usability, including an aging simulation. Gloves to simulate tremors, an extra 55 pounds of weight, ear plugs, glasses to simulate retina detachment or something (I could barely see) – it was kind of awful, but super interesting at the same time. Aging can be scary, especially if you don’t take care of yourself while you’re young!

So…what does this have to do with reviewing a skincare product? Your skin ages too! And while wrinkles may not be physically debilitating like the tremors or loss of muscle mass I experienced last week, keeping your skin healthy (and out of the sun, cough cough) is still super important. Besides, who doesn’t want to look their best! 😉

Enter: one of Valentia’s newest products, the Night Revive Retinol serum (or, nighttime serum from here on out.) I’ve been using this serum before bed for a couple of weeks now, and I have seen no changes. BUT THAT’S OKAY. I don’t have any wrinkles to get rid of, and my skin is pretty great, all things considered. I didn’t expect the serum to immediately make my face as soft and smooth as a baby’s bottom! Thad said; I DO feel confident that by using this product in my 20s and beyond, my skin will thank me as I get older!

Okay, now let’s get into the details (supplied by Valentia.)

KEY INGREDIENTS:

Retinol (Vitamin A): Works at the cellular level to stop winkles, manage breakouts, and evens out skin discoloration.
Vitamin C: Guards skin against environmental free-radicals to prevent premature aging.
Vitamin E: Provides intense hydration to diminish the drying effects of retinol.
Squalane: Derived for pure olive oil to soften and condition delicate skin.

As with all Valentia products, this nighttime serum is made of all natural, organic ingredients. It is unscented, and doesn’t leave a gross, greasy residue after application. (That’s probably my favorite part, yay!) You can find this serum, as well as the other Valentia products I’ve reviewed on their website and on Amazon.

Take care of your skin, y’all! (and Happy Halloweekend!!)

Review: Valentia Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer

I’m glad Valentia seems to like me as much as I like their products – it’s easy to review what they send because it’s so hard to find something I don’t like!

I try to use a moisturizer every day, especially after learning my great great Aunt’s secret to pretty amazing skin at 100+ years old was Pond’s cream. That said, I notice that my skin has slightly different requirements as the seasons start to change. Joe and I seem to get out and about more often in the Fall, whether we’re climbing dunes, bar-hopping, or sitting around a bonfire for hours; so I need a moisturizer that can stand up to all of that chilly, blowy air!

The consistency of the moisturizer had me a bit worried at first; it seemed like it would be greasier than I prefer, but it soaked right into my skin and didn’t feel greasy at all, phew. It’s been working well as primer for powder foundation (on the somewhat rare occasion that I use that…) – but I’ve also found myself wearing no foundation at all more frequently! Which I guess isn’t really that crazy for me, but still.

The main ingredients in this moisturizer are:

  • Botanical Hyaluronic Acid to moisturize, support skin elasticity, and plump skin from within.
  • Kojic Acid to control melanin production and prevent dark spots.
  • Ginseng to boost skin firming collagen, fight wrinkles, and give the skin a brighter and more energized look.
  • Safflower Oil that repairs skin’s natural moisture barrier and provides superior skin protection.
  • Shea Butter that infuses skin with a myriad of vitamins and nutrients for superior skin hydration and nourishment.

It should go without saying , but I also like knowing I can feel good about putting Valentia products onto my skin. 🙂

Oh, and did I mention I have a discount code for you!? Use code MRNJMRV3 for 20% off of your purchase on Valentia’s website! I still use the Detox mask at least once a week – definitely my favorite product, but everything is fab <3 (ps, the code expires Nov 11.) Treat yo’self!

Review: Valentia Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask (plus an awesome discount!)

Oh, Valentia – how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

Disclaimer: I was sent these products from Valentia with no compensation other than the product to test and review. The following post consists of my honest thoughts & opinions about the product!

Is that a Shakespeare quote? I think so. Okay, back on topic. Valentia reached out to me last week to see if I’d like to review their new Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask, and while my skin isn’t really that bad – usually just a pimple or two right before/during my period (thanks, hormones) – I have noticed that it’s getting less and less ‘perfect’ as I get older. Probably due to too much sugar and not enough H2O, but still. I’m always up for a new mask. Plus healthy looking skin was especially important leading up to this weekend – I had a gala to attend! (I promise it wasn’t as fancy-schmancy as it sounds, but I still wanted my skin to look as flawless as possible, because of course!)

I’ve used the mask 5 times so far, quickly learning not to use it two days in a row (it stung quite a bit as it started to dry and left a bit of a rash..which thankfully was gone by the morning.) The mask also has a very strong cranberry scent, so if that’s not an aroma you enjoy (or can at least tolerate,) the mask probably isn’t for you (unless you can hold your breath for 30 minutes straight.) The smell is thanks to all sorts of little cranberry fibers in the mask, which help to gently exfoliate your face as you take the mask off. I love anything exfoliating, so that’s definitely a plus in my book.

Usually I don’t really see/notice a difference in my skin after using masks other than just feeling more moisturized or refreshed, but I’m pretty certain this detox mask helped eliminate the two pimples that appeared on my face during the week leading up to the Gala – it doesn’t get better than that! (Or does it? My skin has also been feeling smoother and brighter, and I’m hoping that in the long term it helps with the irritated skin around my nose. Fingers crossed.)

I love that the ingredients in Valentia’s products are (mostly) things that the general population will recognize; it makes their products feel that much more accessible, while still presenting itself as a premium skincare brand. And hey, even if it’s a word/ingredient you don’t recognize, Valentia always includes a brief description to explain the benefits of each key ingredient on the side of the box:

Kaolin Clay: Clay minerals draw impurities, improve skin tone, and tighten pores for smoother firmer skin.

Plant Stem Cells: Naturally decreases the level of pro-aging toxins and works to soother the skin, reduce redness, and improve evenness.

Spirulina: A botanical stimulant full of vitamins that hydrates the skins surface and contributes to tissue regeneration of the skin.

CoQ10: Lessens the appearance of wrinkles by reducing free radical damage and stimulating health collagen production.

Hibiscus & Cranberry Fibers: Both lend their anti-aging properties to firm and reinforce the skin, helping to reduce the creation of new wrinkles.

See? Not intimidating at all. 98% natural ingredients, vegan friendly and cruelty free? I don’t think many beauty companies can even claim one of those things, much less all 3. You go, Valentia.

My only qualm with the mask after a little over a week of use is that my skin does feel a bit dry after taking it off. Luckily I have a fantastic nighttime moisturizer that I just slather on before climbing into bed, and all is well by morning.

If you’ve made it this far, I probably know what you’re thinking: Claire, you mentioned a discount….?

You can purchase this mask right now from Amazon (with Prime/free shipping) or directly from Valentia’s website; both for $25. BUT if you wait a week, Valentia is launching an all new website – Valentia 2.0, and to celebrate they’re offering an awesome discount to all readers of my blog! From May 16th to June 1st, enter REFRESH35 during checkout and you’ll save 35% on your entire purchase through valentia.com. Check it out – it’s absolutely worth a look.

Oh, and I just Googled it – that was Shakespeare at the beginning! Sonnet 43 in case you were wondering 😉

Review: Valentia Clear Lift Revitalizing Serum

Disclaimer: I was sent these products from Valentia with no compensation other than the product to test and review. The following post consists of my honest thoughts & opinions about the product!

You might remember the Valentia Royal Rose serum review I posted a couple of weeks ago – yes? Well Valentia provided me another serum to review, this time for daytime use instead of night! In case you need a little recap on the brand, Valentia is an all-natural and organic skincare brand, designed to repair and protect skin.

Valentia Clear Lift Revitalizing Serum

From Valentia:

The Roman Goddess of healing, Valentia, relied on nature’s gifts to heal the citizens of Umbria…Valentia used berries, herbs, barks and other natural ingredients. We also rely on all natural ingredients due to their protective, preventative and corrective powers.

As someone who is helping design for a start-up brand currently, I love when brands have a good story to back up their name – it makes everything seem much more thought through (which I’m sure it was!)

I’ve been using this serum before moisturizer just about every morning for the past week and a half, and while I’m not noticing any immediate visual differences in my complexion, my skin is definitely feeling softer and less dry. The serum doesn’t make my skin feel sticky; it absorbs quickly, allowing me to get on with my morning routine fairly quickly…which as a non-morning person I can definitely appreciate. If you haven’t noticed by now, I have a thing against products that cause hair to stick to my face after applying it. No thank you!

I remember my 100 year old+ great great great Aunt Marian swearing by Ponds to keep her face looking young; who knows, maybe I’ll be thanking Valentia in 75 years! (As well as keeping my face out of the sun whenever possible, of course.) 🙂

You can find Valentia on Facebook and Instagram, and the Clear Lift Revitalizing Serum here!

Review: Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum

Disclaimer: I was sent these products from Valentia with no compensation other than the product to test and review. The following post consists of my honest thoughts & opinions about the product!

Our house is pretty dry (we really need to refill our humidifier…) and Joe and I often wake up feeling super dry/dehydrated which just is not pleasant. To try and keep my face from getting too dried out, I’ve been on the hunt for a nice nighttime moisturizer that 1) isn’t too fragrant, 2) isn’t goopy or sticky, and 3) actually…does something. Shouldn’t be too hard, right? Wrongggg. So sad.

A little over a week ago Valentia sent me their Royal Rose Hydrating Serum to review, and I’m loving it so far! I’ve been putting it on right before bed, and my face isn’t feeling nearly as dry in the morning (though my throat and nose certainly do. Maybe now that I’m writing about it we’ll actually refill the humidifier) and it definitely feels just….better in the morning.

valentia serumAfter the Benzoyl Peroxide tragedy of 2016, I’ve been trying to take a bit better care of my face – more natural ingredients and less harsh chemicals, which is exactly what Valentia’s Hydrating Serum brings to the table. From their website:

“After performing extensive research into what skin care customers find most important, we found an overwhelming demand for skin care that is natural, free of toxins and paraben-free. Natural ingredients with an organic base have proven most effective at repairing skin damaged by sun or wind, preventing signs of aging such as wrinkles, dark spots, and reversing the effects of oxidative stress on the skin. “

valentia serumI really like looking at the ingredients of all natural products – basically just to see what I recognize, and I recognize most of the ingredients in this serum…I suppose that’s a good sign. Or maybe I just have a weird bank of knowledge. You be the judge.

  • Rose Damascena: One of the most nourishing and skin friendly natural oils, providing balance, moisture, and a variety of vitamins and minerals to the skin.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B): This potent vitamin has been clinically proven to fade away hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and acne..
  • Rosehip Seed Oil: Naturally rich in Vitamins C & A, these essential fatty acids work quickly to lock in skin’s moisture.
  • Evening Primrose Oil: Provides light, non-oily moisture to the skin, never clogging or irritating the skin.
  • Bearberry: Reduces melanin production, thereby lightening the skin, revealing a brighter complexion.
  • Lavender: Heals the skin, treating pimples, wounds, and sores.

Really though, whether you’re looking to slow down signs of aging, or are just a 20-something like me trying to take care of their skin, I think this serum from Valentia has enough perks to benefit just about anyone.
